Racers would complete four, 100-mile laps in the desert – at least that was the theory. Our surprise, non-stop checkpoint on the course. We logged car numbers and times as racers passed by. On the way home, we took an off-road route, which took us through a very windy Afton Canyon. When it was time to air up the tires at the end of the trip, we tried hiding from the wind, but still got sandblasted.
